Friends Of The Future

Friends of the Future provides administrative support to projects that are independently staffed and funded, time-specific, short-term and fit within Friends’ of the Future’s exempt purpose.

Initiatives begin with Friends of the Future with a plan to become established and transition either into an independent 501(c)3 or to another 501(c)3 organization which more closely matches the project’s long term mission.

Friends of the Future provides fiscal sponsorship relationship structured to meet the specific project’s goals and needs.

Programs & Community Initiatives

Hui Kuapa

Collecting oral histories, and sharing oli, mele and dance so the values and traditions of Hawai’i will be perpetuated.

Waipi’o Valley Community Circle

Community-based planning to preserve and perpetuate Waipi’o Valley as wahi pana – a revered and sacred place. The Circle is a community group that oversees the Education & Information Officer program and is planning an education center/museum at the entrance to Waipi`o Valley.

Hawai’i Island Leadership Series ~ Ulumau

Preparing to confront the needs of our communities by engaging a broad range of emerging leaders in shared experiences which build understanding of, passion for, and commitment to our island.

Offering middle and high school youth co-curricular and extra curricular service learning activities with place-based contexts for learning about environment, stewardship, and culture.

Presenting hands-on, minds-on activities for kids ages 7 to 18; based in science, technology, and creativity; designed to inspire a sense of wonder, nurture a passion for learning, and cultivate strong foundations for life.

Baby STEPS To Stronger Big Island Families

Helping babies thrive and reach their full potential by strengthening families and educators.Two of several Baby STEPS projects are the Waimea and Honoka`a Play and Learn Groups which offer parents opportunities to partner with their child in play, strengthen the bond with their child, and network with other parents and caregivers.

Na Haumana La‘au Lapa‘au O Papa Auwa

Perpetuating the legacy of 7th generation herbal practitioner Papa Henry Auwae by curating a portion of Lapakahi State Park and carrying on his herbal practitioner traditions.

Hawai‘i Island Women’s Leadership Forum

Elevating the leadership of women, led by women, by growing a series of activities to nurture women to build a legacy for generations to come.
